Swinging for Sisters is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing softball equipment and resources to underprivileged children, with the goal of building future leaders and empowering inner-city youth through the sport of softball. Our outreach includes the distribution of sports equipment, sports training and mentoring.
How did we get started ?
Hi,
My name is Dilynn Yohe. I am a 14 year old with a passion for playing softball. This year while playing for my local public high school I realized there were several schools without both a JV and Varsity team. I asked my coaches and parents as to why these schools did not have enough girls to play on 2 teams; when these were obviously big enough schools. The answer that I got was that the areas were lower income and softball is a sport that is often overlooked for school funding.
Unlike football or soccer where schools provide most of the equipment; softball requires certain individualized equipment.
Gloves and bats are very customized items that are necessary to play. The average glove for a school age child cost between $79 - $399 depending on the leather , position and brand. Most bats are not far behind. This cost is a big deterrent for children in low income areas or children from single families. In fact, softball/baseball are the most expensive high school sports even out ranking football, soccer , volleyball and wrestling!
In spring of 2024 I did my first big fundraiser. When the fundraiser was over I asked my mother if I raised enough money to buy one of the girls on my high school team a glove. Her response was, " you raised enough money to purchase 100 gloves". While this was a slight exaggeration from her ; it got me thinking that I could start a movement to help more children. It was that day that Swinging for Sisters Corporation was put into the works.

The mission of Swinging For Sisters Corporation is to provide access to softball gloves and equipment to children in need. To use softball to help build a future for our youth and close the monetary gap in being able to participate.
Swinging For Sisters Corporation operates through partnerships with local organizations and volunteers. We are a 501C3 who dedicates 100% of our donations back to the communities they come from.
FUNDS RAISED: We use your donations to buy new gloves for girls who have the drive to play softball but do not have the means to afford gloves.
EQUIPTMENT DONATIONS: We accept gently used gloves, helmets, bats and bat bags and repurpose them to children in the immediate area from where they were donated.
EDUCATION: We would like to provide a place of ongoing education for all participants including a hub spot on what colleges are looking for and what other programs may be helpful to all who are interested.
There is an old adage that it takes a village to raise a child. We could not agree more. We realize that we can accomplish so much more if we work together.
Become a drop of site: We are looking for schools and churches to become drop off sites for every community! By signing up to become a drop off location you help us reach more children at every level. You also help in preventing extra spending on postage that could be used to buy more equipment. Become a mentor: We are looking for coaches at every level to participate in free clinics that we host throughout the year. If you have softball IQ we are looking for educators and coaches in all areas. If you are interested please reach out to us.
